Classical Music
#1
Hey, cool, another music thread.

I've wanted to make a classical music thread for a while, but haven't, due to a probable lack of interest. But whatever, no point in not making it, so here ya go: classical music! Talk about it, listen to it, drop recommendations, all that jazz.

Here's a short sampling of what classical music has to offer (I'm listing links instead of embedding them for ease of reading):

Georges Bizet - L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1: Prelude

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - The Magic Flute: Overture

I'm not very knowledgable in classical or music in general but Holst's planets anyone? I find them interesting in that they seem to have influenced a lot of other works, particularly in film. And each are so expressive so I kinda like to ask people which they're most fond of (neptune personally).

Hey this is great, if I need music to de-stress or help me focus I'll come here.

Holst's The Planets suite is top tier! Neptune is a super interesting choice. I'm rather fond of Saturn, personally. Though, I think Jupiter deserves some props because, to me anyway, it seems like it would be the most credible as a standalone work. And Mars as well, because, as you said, The Planets has had an immense influence on film music, and this is especially apparent with Mars, which had a noticeable influence on John Williams' and Hans Zimmer's most famous works, among others.

Nice, I believe I read somewhere that Saturn was Holst's preference. And yes that's exactly what I mean, I swear the music in BTAS by Danny Elfman was influenced partly by Neptune. Then I'm almost certain Dreamworks theme was inspired by Jupiter.

marvelousjester - Last Tuesday at 6:10 PM Wrote:Suite Bergamasque by Debussy is super good, as is Grieg's Piano Concerto.

Saving this here so I will remember it. I've listened to Debussy already. Actually do you mind if I stick something else here as well? Allegro Non Troppo an animated film. I constantly remember a couple of very classic music featured in it and their names so I'll come here if I need a reminder.

Unfortunately, that specific video is blocked in my country, but I've heard Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun before and it is superb. I'm gonna have to look up another video so I can listen to it again. Also, that video you linked above was pretty short but very neat. I love Ravel's Bolero.

Here's a really cool piece:

Although it's often difficult to find good versions of, it remains one of my favorite pieces ever. Lili Boulanger was a marvelous talent, who lived a tragically short life and left a tragically small repertoire.
